Finding Gorgeous Glass For My House

When I started renovating my house, I was really amazed with how many different areas needed brand new glass. It was really interesting to realize that several different portions of the house needed to be completely overhauled, and before I knew it, I was talking with glass vendors about how they could help. They walked through the space, talked with me about different options, and then recommended that I head in to see the examples in the warehouse. The samples were absolutely gorgeous, and I knew right away that I needed to invest in some decorative glass. Check out this website for more information on glass products, vendors, and choosing the right options for your home.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tape And Auto Glass Repairs

If you see a crack or chip in your windshield glass, you may be searching around the internet trying to determine what you need to do. One of the suggestions may be to place a piece of tape over the chip or crack until you get it repaired. This may leave you wondering if this is something you should really do and why. Here are a few questions you may have about tape and auto glass repairs.

Is There Really a Benefit to Placing Tape Over Damaged Auto Glass?

Yes, there is. If you have a crack or chip in your windshield, dirt, dust and other debris can settle into the crack. Unfortunately, there is not a really good method to remove this debris before windshield repair is done. If the debris has settled, it can impede the resin's ability to adhere properly with the glass. What this means is that the repair to your windshield may not hold or last as long as it should, all because dirt or dust got into the crack. Placing a piece of tape over the area as quickly as possible helps to keep this debris out.

Should the Glass Be Cleaned Before the Tape is Placed?

No. You do not want to attempt to clean the glass before the piece of tape is placed. This can cause moisture to sit in the crack which can prevent the tape from adhering. If it is hot or cold out, the moisture in the crack can also help the glass expand or contract, which can cause the chip or crack to grow. It is best to simply place the piece of tape over the affected area without trying to clean the crack or chip.

What Type of Tape Works Best?

Not all tape is the same. For best results, use clear packing tape over your crack. Clear packing tape is large enough to cover the chip or the crack and helps to keep moisture out. Never use duct tape, as the residue can be damaging to your windshield. Other types of tape, like brown packing tape, will not keep moisture out and can impede your ability to drive.

If your auto glass has any chips or cracks in it, it is best to get the crack or chipped filled in as quickly as possible, such as by Griggs & Son Glass & Mirror. However, you may have to wait a few days for an appointment or you may need to wait until you get paid to afford it. In the meantime, placing a piece of tape over the crack can help to keep dirt and debris out, which can help the resin adhere to the glass and increase your chances of the repair being successful.
